Harper Adams graduate lands NFU role

Harper Adams University graduate Romy Jackson has recently started a new role with the National Farmers Union as a County Adviser for Sussex & Surrey.

The former Rural Enterprise and Land Management BSc (Hons) student will work with NFU members to address issues in the area, by engaging with stakeholders lobbying  MP’s and other opinion formers, and working with the police and other rural services to represent the interests of farming members. Romy also works with the local NFU offices to attract new members and showcase the value of the organisation to current members.

She starts her new role after time spent with Savills as a Chartered Surveyor in Essex, before making a move within the company to Perth, Scotland – specialising in rural estate management and renewable energy.

Romy also spent time with Frank Marshall (now operating under the name Wright Marshall) at Chelford Market as an Auctioneers’ Assistant and Clerk. 

Speaking about her time at Harper Adams University, Romy said: “I didn’t grow up on a farm, although I had a rural background so Harper gave me the chance to interact with the industry.

“I met a lot of people who I still often see now through work – the world of agriculture is quite small!

“The degree is well respected and it was well recognised when it came to starting my career.”

Romy also sat on the Harper Adams Student Union in a Clubs & Societies role – meeting a lot of people that she doesn’t believe she’d have had the chance to mix with otherwise.

“I got to meet some cool DJ’s we booked for events. Some of my best friends to this day are also people I met through my time at Harper Adams and on the Student Union.”
